ATLANTA – Winning $35,000 in the lottery was a shoe-in for one grandmother of four. While shoe shopping in Fort Oglethorpe, Barbara Trew, 69, played the Georgia Lottery instant game Roll 'Em Up and won a $35,000 top prize.
She purchased the winning ticket at Action Video, 2738 LaFayette Road, in Fort Oglethorpe.
"I thought it was a joke," she said.
Married 51 years, Trew and her husband, James, have two adult children and live in Apison, Tenn. The couple plan to pay bills and will celebrate the holidays with family.
"Christmas will be great," she exclaimed. "Santa definitely will come this year."
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $9.5 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Prekindergarten Program. More than 1 million students have received HOPE, and more than 850,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
