ATLANTA – A McDonough man can celebrate the holiday season this year with a dash of $750,000 in lottery winnings. Ronnie Joyce, 61, played the holiday-themed Georgia Lottery instant game Jingle Jumbo Bucks and won a top prize.
On his way home from a hunting trip with his wife, Ann, Joyce stopped at BP Food Mart, 194 Keys Ferry St. in McDonough, and purchased the ticket.
"It turned out to be lucky for me," the retired diesel mechanic said. "When I saw it, I could not believe it. Now, I've changed my tune."
Joyce and his wife have two adult children and five grandchildren. The couple plan to pay off their home mortgage and will share a portion of their winnings with their grandchildren. Joyce also is considering buying a new truck. He will save the remainder for the couple’s retirement.
"This prize will provide a better cushion for us," he said. "Winning is going to work out just fine."
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $9.5 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Prekindergarten Program. More than 1 million students have received HOPE, and more than 850,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
