ATLANTA – A retired Byron firefighter has won a hot Georgia Lottery prize. Gary Sanford matched all five winning numbers in the Nov. 1 Fantasy 5 drawing and was one of two players to win $235,602.
"I watched the drawing on TV, and I haven't been to sleep since," Sanford said.
Winning numbers for the drawing were: 7-14-26-29-32. Sanford purchased his Quik Pik combination at Byron Chevron #0420, 302 Highway 49 N., Byron. The second top prize ticket was purchased in Grovetown.
Sanford, who will turn 62 on Nov. 29, plans to use some of his prize to pay bills.
"Other than that, I don't have a clue," he said.
Georgia Lottery retailers selling winning Fantasy 5 top prize tickets receive a retailer incentive bonus of $2,000. The retailer incentive bonus increases by $2,000 each time Fantasy 5 rolls. If more than one winning top prize ticket is sold, the retailers selling the top prize winning tickets will share the bonus. Byron Chevron will receive a retailer incentive bonus of $6,000.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $9.5 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Prekindergarten Program. More than 1 million students have received HOPE, and more than 850,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
