ATLANTA – Clarence Floyd, a retired locomotive engineer, won $5,000 when he was randomly selected in the Georgia's Millionaire Club weekly drawing held Nov. 2. As a result of his win, Floyd, 83, now has a chance to win $10 million.
Floyd, a resident of Clayton, Ala., watched the televised drawing and was surprised to see his name drawn.
"I didn't want to believe it," he said. "It feels pretty good."
According to Floyd, who has one son and five grandchildren, he will use his $5,000 prize to pay bills.
"I may also give some to charity," he said.
Georgia's Millionaire Club weekly drawings are held in conjunction with the instant game Georgia's $500 Million Club. Each weekly Georgia's Millionaire Club winner will receive $5,000 and become a finalist in the Extra Chance $10 Million Grand Prize Drawing.
Players can mail in a non-winning Georgia's $500 Million Club ticket to enter the Georgia's Millionaire Club drawings. Complete the back of the ticket, add a stamp, and mail the ticket as a postcard. The Georgia Lottery will conduct a weekly drawing from all entries received that week. Weekly drawings will be broadcast as a part of the Cash 3 evening drawings each Friday at 6:59 p.m.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $9.5 billion to the state of Georgia for education. More than 1 million students have received HOPE, and more than 850,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
