ATLANTA – A Savannah man is celebrating a $40,000 Georgia Lottery win. Charles Vanterpool, 64, played the instant game 10X the Money and won one of the game's top prizes.
Vanterpool purchased his lucky ticket at Penny Saver Market #0001, located at 2209 Waters Ave. in Savannah. He scratched the ticket outside of the store.
"I just looked at it," he said.
According to Vanterpool, who works in maintenance, he will use his winnings for retirement.
"I'm ready to retire, so I'm going to put it to the side," he shared.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $9.5 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Prekindergarten Program. More than 1 million students have received HOPE, and more than 850,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
