ATLANTA – A Swainsboro grandmother is feeling great about a quarter-million dollar lottery win. Angela Giles was one of two players to match the first five winning numbers and win $250,000 in the Nov. 13 Mega Millions drawing.
Murphy Oil #7205, 408 S. Main St. in Swainsboro, sold the Quik Pik ticket. The winning numbers in the Nov. 13 drawing were: 15-26-36-39-40 and the Mega Ball was 45. The other top prize ticket was purchased in Atlanta. Giles was at home when she discovered her lucky win.
"It was a fluke. I just had a gut feeling," she said. "I was delighted when I picked up that ticket."
Giles, a housewife, and her husband, Gerald, have three adult children and four grandchildren. She plans to establish savings for her grandchildren and will give a family friend a used car.
"I consider it a 'pay it forward' moment," she said.
Also, the couple plan to visit a grandchild in Okinawa, Japan, and they will buy themselves a new house and car. Giles will celebrate her 50th birthday and wedding anniversary on Dec. 19.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $9.5 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Prekindergarten Program. More than 1 million students have received HOPE, and more than 850,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
