ATLANTA – A 43-year-old mother of two is in disbelief over winning $25,000 in the lottery. Phyllis Kitchen of Waycross played the holiday-themed Georgia Lottery instant game Winter Bucks and won a top prize.
Flash Foods #0075, 4095 Jamestown Road in Waycross, sold the winning ticket. Kitchen noticed the ticket and decided to play.
"I was out in the car when I scratched it, and I almost had a fit," she said. "I thought it was $25 but the zeros just kept coming."
Kitchen and her husband, Ellis, plan to save their winnings.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $9.5 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Prekindergarten Program. More than 1 million students have received HOPE, and more than 850,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
