ATLANTA – A Dearing mother of two will ring in New Year’s with a win from the Georgia Lottery. Sandra Burnett, 41, played the instant game Big Money and won a $40,000 top prize.
“My mother and I stopped to get something to eat at a restaurant next door to where I purchased the ticket,” she said.
She purchased her lucky ticket at Mo Convenience & Tobacco Stores, 660 Augusta Highway in Thomson, but scratched it while at home.
“I almost had a heart attack,” the mother of two said.
Feeling good about her windfall, Burnett said she plans to purchase a new car.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $12.1 billion to the state of Georgia for education.
