ATLANTA – A store in Grantville has sold a winning $1 million ticket. Grantville Package Store, 5320 Highway 29 in Grantville, sold a winning ticket that matched the first five winning numbers from the March 8 drawing.
The winner, Bruce Smith of Grantville, increased his prize by selecting the multiplier option, collecting $1 million.
“This is the first time we’ve sold a large lottery prize,” said store owner Rochelle Jabaley. “Gosh, I hope sales triple.”
Winning numbers from the March 8 drawing were: 3-17-19-41-55 and the Mega Ball was 24.
Grantville Package Store receives repeat customers, Jabaley said.
“When the jackpot gets high, we put a sign on the door and every Tom, Dick and Harry picks up a ticket,” she said.
Friday’s Mega Millions drawing is at an estimated $201 million to a single annuity winner.
As with all other Georgia Lottery games, proceeds from Mega Millions will benefit education in the state of Georgia.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $12.3 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.3 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.1 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
