ATLANTA – One Fannin County mother, who was off to a late morning start, has won thousands from the Georgia Lottery as a result. Lisa Combs of McCaysville, who was tardy in taking her children to school, won a $150,000 prize playing Giant Jumbo Bucks after dropping them off.
“It happened by mistake,” she explained.
Combs claimed her prize Wednesday at the Georgia Lottery’s District Office in Dalton.
Amoco North Grocery, 7555 Blue Ridge Drive in Blue Ridge, sold the winning ticket.
Combs was sitting in the parking lot when she discovered her prize.
“Oh gosh, I was crying. I was in tears,” she said.
She and her husband, Mike, are “over the moon.”
The couple has four children, ages 15, 13, 7 and 2.
“I’m ecstatic,” Combs exclaimed. “I’m going to pay off our house and take a vacation.”
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $13.1 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.4 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.1 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
