ATLANTA – Excitement has soared for a Columbus mother who won a half-million dollar Georgia Lottery prize. Kenya Passmore, 36, won a $500,000 top prize playing the instant game Cash Deluxe.
Passmore has two teenagers, ages 13 and 15.
She purchased her lucky ticket at Nick N Dent, 1167 Henry Ave. in Columbus, while on her way home recently. She scratched it in her driveway.
“It didn’t register to me,” she said. “When I saw how much it was, I was hollering and screaming and shaking. I ran in the house and told my kids.”
A student studying healthcare administration at the University of Phoenix, Passmore is planning for her future.
“The first thing I want to do is purchase a home of my own,” she shared. “I want to try to invest the rest.”
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $13.4 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.4 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.1 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
