South University student wins $25,000
ATLANTA – A South University student is at the head of the class after a Georgia Lottery win. Raymond Sharp, 22, played the instant game Red Hot Cherries and won $25,000.
“I couldn’t believe it,” said Sharp, a Savannah resident.
Sharp purchased the top prize ticket at Parker’s #0011, 890 King George Blvd., Savannah. He claimed his prize Monday.
A manager of two Smoothie King stores, Sharp is earning a business administration degree at South. He said the lottery win will help tremendously.
“I’ll probably pay off some student loans and then save the rest,” he said. “It’s pretty cool.”
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $13.4 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.4 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.1 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
