ATLANTA – The Georgia Lottery has partnered with the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) to observe Problem Gambling Awareness Month (PGAM) in March. The annual initiative promotes public awareness of problem gambling and the availability of prevention, treatment and recovery services.
Responsible gaming has been an integral part of the Georgia Lottery since inception. The Georgia Lottery is committed to protecting its players and provides tools, information and assistance to those seeking help.
As a part of that effort, the Georgia Lottery contributes $400,000 annually to the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) to fund research, education and treatment of gambling addiction.
“We are grateful for the resources provided by the Georgia Lottery Corporation to support people who are struggling with problem gambling,” said DBHDD Commissioner Judy Fitzgerald. “With this funding, we have engaged several behavioral health providers to offer evidence-based screening, intervention, and treatment. By working with agencies in our provider network, we are able to focus on gambling addiction together with any co-occurring substance use disorders, and help individuals experience recovery in a holistic manner.”
In Fiscal Year 2017, the Georgia Lottery attained certification for its commitment to responsible gaming from NCPG. Additionally, the Georgia Lottery has been granted accreditation by the World Lottery Association (WLA) for the WLA Responsible Gaming Framework.
The Georgia Problem Gambling Hotline provides confidential, one-on-one support to Georgians who are seeking help for a gambling problem. This toll-free helpline is available 24/7 at: 866-922-7369.
As always, the Georgia Lottery reminds players to “Play responsibly; it’s all about fun!”
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $19.2 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.8 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.6 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
