2nd Soldier to Win Lottery Today; 3rd This Week
ATLANTA - For the second time today, a soldier has won a Georgia Lottery top prize. Army Sgt. First Class Willie Kendrick played the instant game $100 Million Cash Spectacular and won $1 million. Mr. Kendrick's win comes just hours after a soldier on leave from Iraq won $50,000 and two days after a soldier on leave from Puerto Rico won $85,000.
Mr. Kendrick, a resident of Thomson, is stationed at Fort Gordon with the 2/347 Regt. He scratched his lucky ticket in the parking lot at work this morning (June 9).
"I started shaking. I turned around two or three times and rubbed my eyes," says Mr. Kendrick. "Then I showed my coworkers."
Mr. Kendrick immediately called home and shared the exciting news with his wife, Shiely, who was asleep. "I told her to get up because we were going to Atlanta." The couple arrived at Georgia Lottery Headquarters in Atlanta to claim their prize this afternoon.
Chevron Mini Mart, located at 158 E. Milledgeville Rd. in Harlem, sold the lucky ticket.
According to Mr. Kendrick, 45, he plans to pay off his land and donate to charitable causes.
Earlier today, Army Sgt. Felicia Long played the instant game Jumbo Bucks Classic and won $50,000. Ms. Long, a native of Ochlocknee, arrived home from Iraq yesterday (June 8) on a two-week military leave. She purchased her lucky ticket this morning in Moultrie.
On June 7, Army Sgt. First Class Rosalind Lovelace won $85,000 playing the instant game Dollar Signs. Ms. Lovelace, a resident of West Point, Ga., is stationed in Puerto Rico. She purchased her lucky top prize ticket in LaGrange.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $7.4 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs. These include Georgia’s HOPE scholarship program; a statewide, voluntary pre-kindergarten program for four-year-olds; and a wide range of technological and capital upgrades for the state’s schools, technical institutes, colleges, universities and public libraries.
