ATLANTA – As a HOPE scholar, Charles Asbridge of Ellijay is already considered a Georgia Lottery winner. Mr. Asbridge is an even bigger winner after playing Giant Jumbo Bucks and winning the instant game’s $150,000 top prize.
Texaco Food Mart, located at 5040 Highway 76 in Chatsworth, sold the lucky ticket. Mr. Asbridge scratched the ticket in his truck while in the store's parking lot.
"I sat there for about 15 minutes just soaking it in," he says. "Then I went back in the store to make sure that I was seeing what I thought I saw."
Mr. Asbridge, a husband and father of three, describes his Georgia Lottery win as life changing. "I'm going to pay my house off, buy a new truck, do some home improvements, and put some in savings."
Mr. Asbridge, 44, works as a department manager at a Dalton carpet mill. He is earning a management degree from Dalton State College on the HOPE Scholarship. "HOPE is great," he shares. "It's really helping me."
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $8 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Prekindergarten Program. More than 900,000 students have received HOPE Scholarships, and more than 700,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
