ATLANTA – William Ellis is well acquainted with the Georgia Lottery because he used the lottery-funded HOPE scholarship to attend Middle Georgia Technical College in Warner Robins. Now, Mr. Ellis is getting acquainted with being a top prize winner. He played the instant game Jumbo Bucks Classic and won $50,000.
Mr. Ellis scratched the ticket while he was walking out of the store where it was purchased. “At first I thought I won a free ticket,” the 50-year-old said. “But the zeroes kept coming.”
Mr. Ellis, a resident of Warner Robins, plans to use his winnings for the trip he and his wife, Donna, are taking for their wedding anniversary. The prize will also help Mr. Ellis continue his hobby of restoring cars.
Fine Foods, located at 545 N. Davis Dr. in Warner Robins, sold the winning ticket.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $8 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Prekindergarten Program. More than 900,000 students have received HOPE Scholarships, and more than 700,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
