ATLANTA – A Valdosta man is celebrating a Georgia Lottery win. Richard Pheil played the instant game Big Bucks and won a $100,000 top prize.
Pheil, 50, was at home when he scratched the ticket.
"I just started breathing hard," Pheil explained. "I jumped up and walked around a little bit."
A & M Food Store, 5859 Bemiss Rd., Valdosta, sold the winning ticket.
Pheil works as a sales manager for a security systems company. He plans use a portion of his winnings to pay bills.
"I may also put something down on a new house," he shared.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $8.8 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Prekindergarten Program. More than 1 million students have received HOPE, and more than 790,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
