ATLANTA – Evelyn Greene of Vienna said she is excited about winning a $10,000 top prize from playing Joker’s Wild, a Georgia Lottery instant game.
She bought the winning ticket at Zippy Foods, 309 N. Third St., Vienna. She couldn’t believe she'd won.
"I usually don’t show much emotion, but I was excited," said Greene, 54. "I told a friend, and he couldn’t believe it either."
The mother of six said she plans to pay off bills with her winnings.
All six of her children have participated in the lottery-funded prekindergarten program, she said.
"I’m proud of all of them," she said.
Greene also won $1,000 in 2003 playing Giant Jumbo Bucks.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $8.6 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Prekindergarten Program. More than 900,000 students have received HOPE Scholarships, and more than 700,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
