ATLANTA – A waste water superintendent from Glascock County is in the holiday spirit, especially since winning a $400,000 top prize. James Kitchens, who works for the city of Gibson, won his prize playing the new Georgia Lottery instant game Kings & Queens.
Kitchens stopped at JP’s Kwick Shop III, 7744 Highway 15 N. in Warthen, for gas. He sent his brother inside to purchase the ticket.
“We were still outside at the gas station when I scratched it,” said Kitchens, 46. “I started calling everybody. [My brother] was speechless.”
Winning his prize was “good timing,” the lucky winner said.
“All I really wanted this year is a golf cart,” he exclaimed. “We’ve got a small town, and it’s a good way of transportation.”
In addition, Kitchens anticipates paying off bills and saving the remainder of his windfall.
“I’m sort of speechless,” he said. “It hasn’t sunk in yet.”
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $12.1 billion to the state of Georgia for education.
